Basketball Queensland has partnered with Container Exchange (COEX) to give associations across the state a simple new way to turn recycling into revenue, unlocking additional fundraising opportunities through Containers for Change.
Through the statewide partnership, clubs and associations will be supported to collect eligible containers and receive refunds, creating a practical new income stream while reducing waste at venues and events.
As Basketball Queensland’s Official Sustainability Partner, COEX will provide associations with free infrastructure, dedicated support and access to exclusive statewide competitions, making it easier than ever to participate and maximise returns.
Container Exchange Interim CEO Trevor Evans said the partnership delivered both environmental and financial benefits at a critical time for community sport in Queensland.
“Our partnership with Basketball Queensland creates a practical pathway to make container recycling more accessible across clubs and associations, while supporting broader environmental, economic and social outcomes,” Mr Evans said.
“As we look towards the Brisbane 2032 Games, it’s vital community sporting clubs across the state are supported to deliver a sporting legacy built on excellence and sustainability.”
Lachlan Nuttall, Commercial and Marketing Manager at Basketball Queensland, said the partnership aligned strongly with the organisation’s long-term focus on creating meaningful statewide initiatives that positively impact local communities.
“This partnership is about creating a more sustainable future for basketball across Queensland and encouraging our associations and communities to continue improving recycling outcomes across the state,” Mr Nuttall said.
“Basketball Queensland has genuine ambitions to become a leader in this space among Queensland sports and hopefully encourage other sporting organisations and communities to continue investing in sustainability initiatives.”
“We’re also excited about the different ways this partnership can come to life across the basketball community through competitions, activations and initiatives that make sustainability engaging and visible within our venues and events.”
