The Board of Container Exchange (COEX) has appointed Trevor Evans as Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Evans has served as Interim CEO since January 2026 and has led the not-for-profit organisation through a successful period of transition.
“Following a thorough recruitment process, the Board unanimously agreed that Trevor was the right person to lead COEX into its next chapter,” COEX Board Chair Andrew Clark said.
“Over the past eight months, Trevor has demonstrated strong leadership, a deep commitment to our purpose and a genuine ability to bring people together around shared goals. He has built trusted relationships with team members, operators, government and industry stakeholders, and has shown a clear vision for how COEX can continue to evolve and deliver value for Queensland.
“This appointment provides continuity and stability for the organisation while positioning COEX to deliver continuous improvement of Queensland’s container refund scheme.”
Mr Evans said he was honoured to be appointed CEO of COEX and thanked the Board, team members and operators for the support shown during his time as Interim CEO.
“Over the past several months, I’ve been incredibly impressed by the passion, expertise and commitment of our people. Together, we play an important role in delivering environmental, social and economic outcomes for Queensland through Containers for Change.”

Mr Evans brings extensive leadership experience from roles in industry, government and recycling.
He was previously CEO of the National Retail Association and served as the Federal Member for Brisbane. During his time in government, Mr Evans became Australia’s first dedicated minister responsible for recycling, waste and sustainability.
Mr Evans also serves as Chair of Healthy Land & Water, South East Queensland’s leading natural resource management organisation, and as a Director of the South Bank Corporation.
Containers for Change is one of Australia’s most successful recycling schemes. More than 12.3 billion containers have been returned to refund points since November 2018, putting $1.2 billion in 10-cent refunds back into pockets of Queenslanders.
Mr Evans’ appointment follows the conclusion of Natalie Roach’s three-year tenure as CEO in January 2026.
