Gymnastics Queensland and Container Exchange (COEX) have joined forces to help clubs create new opportunities for athletes while making a positive environmental impact through Containers for Change.

Through the statewide partnership, Gymnastics Queensland’s 123 affiliated clubs will be able to collect eligible containers and earn refunds that can be directed towards equipment, venue upgrades, coaching development and participation initiatives.

The partnership gives clubs a simple and sustainable way to raise additional funds, while encouraging recycling at training venues, competitions and community events.

COEX will support participating clubs with free infrastructure, ongoing guidance and access to exclusive statewide competitions to help maximise fundraising results.

COEX Executive General Manager Stakeholder and Communications Joe Fitzgerald said the partnership would deliver environmental and financial benefits to gymnastics clubs and communities across Queensland.

“Our partnership with Gymnastics Queensland creates a practical pathway for clubs to raise additional funds through container recycling while delivering positive environmental, economic and social outcomes,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“Every container returned has the potential to support local gymnastics clubs, helping them invest in facilities, equipment, coaching and opportunities that benefit athletes and communities across the state.”

“As Queensland continues to prepare for the Brisbane 2032 Games, it’s important that community sporting organisations are supported with practical initiatives that strengthen participation, sustainability and long-term success.”

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Chris Rushton said the partnership would provide valuable support for clubs while helping the sport strengthen its sustainability efforts.

“We’re excited to partner with Containers for Change to help clubs of all sizes access an additional revenue stream, wherever they are in their container recycling journey,” Mr Rushton said.

“Whether they’re just getting started or building on an existing program, this partnership will help clubs maximise their fundraising opportunities, with funds going back into equipment, travel, events and coach education.”
