Container Exchange (COEX) has directed all Containers for Change refund points operated by U Can Recycle Pty Ltd to close, effective immediately.
This action follows an extensive investigation that identified serious safety and compliance concerns.
As the not-for-profit organisation appointed by the Queensland Government to administer the scheme, COEX is committed to ensuring all refund points operate safely, fairly and in full compliance with scheme requirements. The safety of our workers and our customers is our top priority.
Every year, millions of Queenslanders visit refund points to return eligible containers for the 10-cent refund to support household budgets while also contributing to charities, community groups and local initiatives. That experience should always be safe and deliver the correct refund.
We recognise this decision will impact customers, charities, community groups and local businesses. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we take this necessary step to protect the integrity of the scheme.
