Queenslanders are set to help Containers for Change hit a major milestone this month, with the scheme on track to surpass 12 billion containers – its fastest billion yet.
In April, the container refund scheme will celebrate more than 12 billion containers recycled through its refund points, putting $1.2 billion in refunds back into the pockets of families, schools, charities and community groups.
Trevor Evans, Interim CEO of Container Exchange, the not-for-profit that runs Containers for Change, said the scheme continued to grow from strength to strength.
“Queenslanders’ dedication to recycling has never been stronger, with more cans and bottles coming through our refund points than ever before,” Mr Evans said.
“Every container returned shows how committed our communities are to doing the right thing for the environment.”
To mark the milestone and thank Queenslanders for recycling, Containers for Change is launching a major prize giveaway.
From 2 April, every return made using a Containers for Change member number will automatically enter customers into the draw to win a range of unforgettable experiences — including the chance to get up close and personal with the incredible wildlife at Australia Zoo.
Mr Evans said Queenslanders could also win prizes by donating their containers to a cause when they return to any of the more than 400 refund points across the state.
“Containers for Change is a vital source of fundraising for community groups and charities, like Wildlife Warriors, which has received more than $32,000 in donations,” he said.
“Every 10-cent container is a chance to support a cause close to your heart – whether that’s saving wildlife, supporting your local sporting club or funding vital support services for vulnerable Queenslanders.”
