Container Exchange (COEX) has received the recommendations of the Inquiry into Improving Queensland’s Container Refund Scheme and will work with the Government on the implementation of the recommendations it chooses to accept.
Containers for Change is one of Australia’s most successful recycling systems.
COEX has built a nation-leading container refund scheme founded on strong not-for-profit principles to maximise the environment, social and economic benefits of the scheme for all Queenslanders.
Since the scheme launched in November 2018, almost 11 billion containers have been returned through Containers for Change, putting more than $1 billion in 10-cent refunds back into Queensland communities, including more than $17 million in donations to charities.
Queensland is more than twice the size of New South Wales, Australia’s only other state to process more than 2 billion containers a year through its container refund scheme, yet we consistently achieve a similar recovery rate.
Our priority remains supporting the more than 1,500 Queenslanders employed through the container refund scheme and the communities across the state who rely on its service.
We assure the public that they can continue to return their eligible beverage containers in exchange for the 10-cent refund at more than 400 Containers for Change refund points across Queensland.
COEX acknowledges that the Health, Environment and Innovation Committee has referred 10 allegations to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) for consideration.
We take these allegations seriously and are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
As these allegations have been referred to the CCC, it would be inappropriate to comment further on this matter.
