Burnett Heads residents can now recycle their eligible beverage containers through Containers for Change at Central Queensland’s first Reverse Vending Machine (RVM).
The RVM, operated by CQ Recycling on Zunker Street, is ideal for returning a small number of containers to cash in for the 10-cent refund.
Natalie Roach, Chief Executive Officer for Container Exchange, the not-for-profit organisation that runs Containers for Change, said the new RVM was the latest expansion of the scheme to support recycling in the Bundaberg region.
“Bundaberg is home to many avid recyclers with 51.1 million containers returned through Containers for Change in 2024, putting $5.1 million back into the pockets of locals, charities and community groups,” Ms Roach said.
“We’re looking forward to offering Bundaberg residents more opportunities to recycle their eligible beverage containers, including opening a new depot in Thabeban and a new Reverse Vending Machine in Bundaberg Central.”
The Burnett Heads RVM offers EFT and PayPal payments through the Containers for Change app, which is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Cash payments are provided at three Container for Change depots across the Bundaberg metro area.
“We know cash is king for many Queenslanders and that preferred payment option is offered by the majority of operators across Central Queensland,” Ms Roach said.
There are 56 Container Refund Points across Central Queensland where people can return their eligible beverage containers in exchange for the 10-cent refund, including depots, bag drops and mobile pop-ups.
