Easter holidays a hopping good time to cash in containers

MEDIA RELEASE

Did you know that the Easter school holidays are one of the most popular times of the year for Queenslanders to cash in their drink containers?

There’s never been a better time to visit one of Queensland’s more than 360 container refund points than these school holidays, with extra giveaways making this Easter egg-stra sweet for recyclers.

Containers for Change is Queensland’s container refund scheme, run by Container Exchange, which offers a 10-cent refund for eligible containers which are returned to be recycled.

The Easter school holidays last year saw more than 75 million containers returned across Queensland for more than $7.5 million in refunds. With record numbers of drink containers being cashed in so far in 2023, the Easter period is expected to follow suit.

To kick off Easter with a hopping good wallet booster, customers who return more than 100 containers on 31 March, 2023 and show their scheme ID could score a bonus $10 EFTPOS gift card. To see if your local refund point is taking part look out for the colourful easter eggs on our where to return page. Gift cards at participating refund points are limited so hop to it!

For those exploring the great outdoors during the break, there’s a great way to start your container collection journey with free Containers for Change collection bags being made available across the state.

Shoppers at BCF stores across Queensland will be able to pick up a free Containers for Change collection bag during the school holidays from Saturday 1st to Sunday 16th April 2023.

The free collection bags are designed to encourage families to collect their empties wherever they are enjoying beverages this Easter, whether it be at a campsite, fishing, or on a road trip.

Container Exchange chief executive Natalie Roach says with the cost of living rising, cashing in containers is a great way to score extra cash these holidays, no matter where you are.

“We now have more refund points across the state than ever before. With more than 360 places to return your empties, there are convenient options no matter whether you stay at home or go on holiday.

“Doing your bit when you are out and about not only means 10-cents back in your pocket but another container saved from ending up littering our precious environment,” she said.
